textsynthese I
Eva Beierheimer/Miriam Laussegger
Libraries Vienna
2005-2006

If a book out of the stock of the viennese public library isn’t borrowed over a period of two years it is removed from the library catalog. these books are moved to a new context and put to the focal point of public interest again. They are turned to some page, arranged in a line on a display and presented with the selected part of the inside visible to the outside. Thereby the private space of books turns into the public space. sections, sentences, words and pictures are marked at the window display creating a new content. The identity of each book is deconstructed. the new constellation results in a new context and a new meaning. As a result a reevaluation becomes possible. New stories and alternative perspectives are developed. The books in the installation start to correspond with each other. The window display installation can also be seen as a platform to activate interaction and public communication.
